Buy online Ashmolean News A new acquisition on display Magnificent Civil War group portrait by William Dobson The Ashmolean is delighted to announce the acquisition of a magnificent group portrait by William Dobson (1611–46) painted in Oxford during the Civil War. The painting has been acquired for the nation through the Acceptance in Lieu scheme, administered by the Arts Council, and a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund will support a programme of events and activities to bring the picture to a wide public audience.
